make amends with the victim
and the community. - Your contract will involve your learning needs.
- You won’t have a criminal record.
- You won’t be alone. We will assist
you through the process and
you can have a support person
with you. - We will work diligently to clue up the matter quickly.
- You will not have to go through the formal judicial system.

Who Can Participate?
You can participate in the EJS program if you have been in conflict with the law, referred by the Crown Attorney and accepted by the program.

What Will I Have To Do?
You will have to meet with a trained mediator to discuss the wrongdoing and how to begin to make it right. You must accept responsibility for your actions, voluntarily agree to participate and complete a contract either through mediation or diversion. You are encouraged to bring a parent or support person to join you.

What is Mediation/Diversion
The EJS Program offers two paths to resolution. Mediation occurs when the victim has expressed interest in participating. It is an open and honest discussion between you and the victim which allows you both to tell your side of the story and for you to respond to the victim’s concerns. Diversion is an opportunity for you to participate if the victim is not interested. One of the goals is to develop a contract for you to make amends.

What is a Contract?
A contract is an agreement on what you will need to do to successfully complete the EJS Program. Some contract conditions may include: written or verbal apologies; acknowledge of the harm done through acts of kindness to the victim/community; personal service, participation in a community event, restitution, community service, written or art assignments, attendance in an educational program or personal development session, resume building, music therapy, meeting with an RNC officer, healthy relationships, emotional regulation, fundraising or community awarness for charities, or participating in counselling.
